Definition: End-blown flute with a wooden block and fipple which originated in renaissance Europe. Also known as flute a bec, and blockflöte. Introduction: Recorders originated in the renaissance period, when instruments were made with a cylindrical bore, but those mostly used today are baroque designs with a conical bore.
